A Law of Inheritance
1 Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 They stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of Holy Days, saying: B UThOMDNA LFNI MShA ULFNI ELOZR AKAN ULFNI ANShIEM UKL-AODA FThCh EAL-MUOD LEMR ב ותעמדנה לפני משה ולפני אלעזר הכהן ולפני הנשיאם וכל-העדה פתח אהל-מועד לאמר
3 'Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not among the company of them that gathered themselves together against IAUA in the company of Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among the brethren of our father.' 5 Moses brought their cause before IAUA. A UIQRB MShA ETh-MShFTN LFNI IAUA ה ויקרב משה את-משפטן לפני יהוה
6 IAUA spoke to Moses, saying: U UIEMR IAUA EL-MShA LEMR ו ויאמר יהוה אל-משה לאמר
7 'The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: you shall surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. 8 You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: If a man die, and have no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. Ch UEL-BNI IShREL ThDBR LEMR EISh KI-IMUTh UBN EIN LU UAOBRThM ETh-NChLThU LBThU ח ואל-בני ישראל תדבר לאמר איש כי-ימות ובן אין לו והעברתם את-נחלתו לבתו
9 If he have no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brethren. T UEM-EIN LU BTh UNThThM ETh-NChLThU LEChIU ט ואם-אין לו בת ונתתם את-נחלתו לאחיו
10 If he have no brethren, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brethren. I UEM-EIN LU EChIM UNThThM ETh-NChLThU LEChI EBIU י ואם-אין לו אחים ונתתם את-נחלתו לאחי אביו
11 If his father have no brethren, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. It shall be to the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as IAUA commanded Moses.' IE UEM-EIN EChIM LEBIU UNThThM ETh-NChLThU LShERU AQRB ELIU MMShFChThU UIRSh EThA UAIThA LBNI IShREL LChQTh MShFT KEShR TsUA IAUA ETh-MShA יא ואם-אין אחים לאביו ונתתם את-נחלתו לשארו הקרב אליו ממשפחתו וירש אתה והיתה לבני ישראל לחקת משפט כאשר צוה יהוה את-משה
12 IAUA said to Moses: 'Get you up into this mountain of Abarim, and behold the land which I have given to the children of Israel. IB UIEMR IAUA EL-MShA OLA EL-AR AOBRIM AZA UREA ETh-AERTs EShR NThThI LBNI IShREL יב ויאמר יהוה אל-משה עלה אל-הר העברים הזה וראה את-הארץ אשר נתתי לבני ישראל
13 When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered; IG UREIThA EThA UNESFTh EL-OMIK GM-EThA KEShR NESF EARN EChIK יג וראיתה אתה ונאספת אל-עמיך גם-אתה כאשר נאסף אהרן אחיך
14 because you rebelled against My commandment in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify Me at the waters before their eyes.'--These are the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.-- ID KEShR MRIThM FI BMDBR-TsN BMRIBTh AODA LAQDIShNI BMIM LOINIAM AM MI-MRIBTh QDSh MDBR-TsN יד כאשר מריתם פי במדבר-צן במריבת העדה להקדישני במים לעיניהם הם מי-מריבת קדש מדבר-צן
15 Moses spoke to IAUA, saying: TU UIDBR MShA EL-IAUA LEMR טו וידבר משה אל-יהוה לאמר
16 'Let IAUA, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, TZ IFQD IAUA ELAI ARUChTh LKL-BShR EISh OL-AODA טז יפקד יהוה אלהי הרוחת לכל-בשר איש על-העדה
17 who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of IAUA be not as sheep which have no shepherd.' IZ EShR-ITsE LFNIAM UEShR IBE LFNIAM UEShR IUTsIEM UEShR IBIEM ULE ThAIA ODTh IAUA KTsEN EShR EIN-LAM ROA יז אשר-יצא לפניהם ואשר יבא לפניהם ואשר יוציאם ואשר יביאם ולא תהיה עדת יהוה כצאן אשר אין-להם רעה
18 IAUA said to Moses: 'Take you Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, and lay your hand on him; ICh UIEMR IAUA EL-MShA QCh-LK ETh-IAUShO BN-NUN EISh EShR-RUCh BU USMKTh ETh-IDK OLIU יח ויאמר יהוה אל-משה קח-לך את-יהושע בן-נון איש אשר-רוח בו וסמכת את-ידך עליו
19 and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. IT UAOMDTh EThU LFNI ELOZR AKAN ULFNI KL-AODA UTsUIThA EThU LOINIAM יט והעמדת אתו לפני אלעזר הכהן ולפני כל-העדה וצויתה אתו לעיניהם
20 You shall put of your honor on him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may hearken. K UNThThA MAUDK OLIU LMON IShMOU KL-ODTh BNI IShREL כ ונתתה מהודך עליו למען ישמעו כל-עדת בני ישראל
21 He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before IAUA; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.' KE ULFNI ELOZR AKAN IOMD UShEL LU BMShFT AEURIM LFNI IAUA OL-FIU ITsEU UOL-FIU IBEU AUE UKL-BNI-IShREL EThU UKL-AODA כא ולפני אלעזר הכהן יעמד ושאל לו במשפט האורים לפני יהוה על-פיו יצאו ועל-פיו יבאו הוא וכל-בני-ישראל אתו וכל-העדה
22 Moses did as IAUA commanded him; and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation. KB UIOSh MShA KEShR TsUA IAUA EThU UIQCh ETh-IAUShO UIOMDAU LFNI ELOZR AKAN ULFNI KL-AODA כב ויעש משה כאשר צוה יהוה אתו ויקח את-יהושע ויעמדהו לפני אלעזר הכהן ולפני כל-העדה
