Duties of Levites
1 IAUA said to Aaron: 'You and your sons and your fathers' house with you shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary; and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood. 2 Your brethren also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring you near with you, that they may be joined to you, and minister to you, you and your sons with you being before the tent of the testimony. 3 They shall keep your charge, and the charge of all the Tent; only they shall not come nigh to the holy furniture and to the altar, that they die not, neither they, nor you. 4 They shall be joined to you, and keep the charge of the tent of Holy Days, whatsoever the service of the Tent may be; but a common man shall not draw nigh to you. 6 I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel; for you they are given as a gift to IAUA, to do the service of the tent of Holy Days. 7 You and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood in everything that pertains to the altar, and to that within the veil; and you shall serve; I give you the priesthood as a service of gift; and the common man that draws nigh shall be put to death.' 8 IAUA spoke to Aaron: 'I, behold, I have given you the charge of My heave-offerings; even of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel to you have I given them for a consecrated portion, and to your sons, as a due for ever. 9 This shall be your of the most holy things, reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal-offering of theirs, and every sin-offering of theirs, and every guilt-offering of theirs, which they may render to Me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons. 11 This is your: the heave-offering of their gift, even all the wave-offerings of the children of Israel; I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a due for ever; every one that is clean in your house may eat thereof. 15 Every thing that opens the womb, of all flesh which they offer to IAUA, both of man and beast, shall be your; howbeit the first-born of man shall you surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shall you redeem. 16 Their redemption-money--from a month old shall you redeem them--shall be, according to your valuation, five shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary--the same is twenty gerahs. 19 All the heave-offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer to IAUA, have I given you, and your sons and your daughters with you, as a due for ever; it is an everlasting covenant of salt before IAUA to you and to your seed with you.' 20 IAUA said to Aaron: 'You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel. 21 To the children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, even the service of the tent of Holy Days. 22 Henceforth the children of Israel shall not come nigh the tent of Holy Days, unless they bear sin, and die. KB ULE-IQRBU OUD BNI IShREL EL-EAL MUOD LShETh ChTE LMUTh כב ולא-יקרבו עוד בני ישראל אל-אהל מועד לשאת חטא למות
23 But the Levites alone shall do the service of the tent of Holy Days, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, and among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24 For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they set apart as a gift to IAUA, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I have said to them: Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.' 26 'Moreover you shall speak to the Levites, and say to them: When you take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall set apart of it a gift for IAUA, even a tithe of the tithe. 28 Thus you also shall set apart a gift to IAUA of all your tithes, which you receive of the children of Israel; and thereof you shall give the gift which is set apart to IAUA to Aaron the priest. 30 Therefore you shall say to them: When you set apart the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted to the Levites as the increase of the threshing-floor, and as the increase of the wine-press. 32 You shall bear no sin by reason of it, seeing that you have set apart from it the best thereof; and you shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that you die not.' 21 To the children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, even the service of the tent of Holy Days. 22 Henceforth the children of Israel shall not come nigh the tent of Holy Days, unless they bear sin, and die.	KB ULE-IQRBU OUD BNI IShREL EL-EAL MUOD LShETh ChTE LMUTh	כב ולא-יקרבו עוד בני ישראל אל-אהל מועד לשאת חטא למות
23 But the Levites alone shall do the service of the tent of Holy Days, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, and among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24 For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they set apart as a gift to IAUA, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I have said to them: Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.' 25 IAUA spoke to Moses, saying:	KA UIDBR IAUA EL-MShA LEMR	כה וידבר יהוה אל-משה לאמר
26 'Moreover you shall speak to the Levites, and say to them: When you take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall set apart of it a gift for IAUA, even a tithe of the tithe.	KU UEL-ALUIM ThDBR UEMRTh ELAM KI-ThQChU METh BNI-IShREL ETh-AMOShR EShR NThThI LKM METhM BNChLThKM UARMThM MMNU ThRUMTh IAUA MOShR MN-AMOShR	כו ואל-הלוים תדבר ואמרת אלהם כי-תקחו מאת בני-ישראל את-המעשר אשר נתתי לכם מאתם בנחלתכם והרמתם ממנו תרומת יהוה מעשר מן-המעשר
27 The gift which you set apart shall be reckoned to you, as though it were the corn of the threshing-floor, and as the fullness of the wine-press.	KZ UNChShB LKM ThRUMThKM KDGN MN-AGRN UKMLEA MN-AIQB	כז ונחשב לכם תרומתכם כדגן מן-הגרן וכמלאה מן-היקב
28 Thus you also shall set apart a gift to IAUA of all your tithes, which you receive of the children of Israel; and thereof you shall give the gift which is set apart to IAUA to Aaron the priest. 29 Out of all that is given you you shall set apart all of that which is due to IAUA, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.	KT MKL MThNThIKM ThRIMU ETh KL-ThRUMTh IAUA MKL-ChLBU ETh-MQDShU MMNU	כט מכל מתנתיכם תרימו את כל-תרומת יהוה מכל-חלבו את-מקדשו ממנו
30 Therefore you shall say to them: When you set apart the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted to the Levites as the increase of the threshing-floor, and as the increase of the wine-press. 32 You shall bear no sin by reason of it, seeing that you have set apart from it the best thereof; and you shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that you die not.'
