| 6 They will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say: They flee before us, as at the first; so we will flee before them. | U UITsEU EChRINU OD AThIQNU EUThM MN-AOIR KI IEMRU NSIM LFNINU KEShR BREShNA UNSNU LFNIAM | ו ויצאו אחרינו עד התיקנו אותם מן-העיר כי יאמרו נסים לפנינו כאשר בראשנה ונסנו לפניהם | ||
| 7 You shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for IAUA your God will deliver it into your hand. | Z UEThM ThQMU MAEURB UAURShThM ETh-AOIR UNThNA IAUA ELAIKM BIDKM | ז ואתם תקמו מהאורב והורשתם את-העיר ונתנה יהוה אלהיכם בידכם | ||
| 8 It shall be, when you have seized on the city, that you shall set the city on fire; according to the word of IAUA shall you do; see, I have commanded you.' | Ch UAIA KThFShKM ETh-AOIR ThTsIThU ETh-AOIR BESh KDBR IAUA ThOShU REU TsUIThI EThKM | ח והיה כתפשכם את-העיר תציתו את-העיר באש כדבר יהוה תעשו ראו צויתי אתכם | ||

| 10 Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai. | I UIShKM IAUShO BBQR UIFQD ETh-AOM UIOL AUE UZQNI IShREL LFNI AOM AOI | י וישכם יהושע בבקר ויפקד את-העם ויעל הוא וזקני ישראל לפני העם העי | ||
| 11 All the people, even the men of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai--now there was a valley between him and Ai. | IE UKL-AOM AMLChMA EShR EThU OLU UIGShU UIBEU NGD AOIR UIChNU MTsFUN LOI UAGI BINU UBIN-AOI | יא וכל-העם המלחמה אשר אתו עלו ויגשו ויבאו נגד העיר ויחנו מצפון לעי והגי בינו ובין-העי | ||
| 12 He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai. | IB UIQCh KChMShTh ELFIM EISh UIShM EUThM ERB BIN BITh-EL UBIN AOI MIM LOIR | יב ויקח כחמשת אלפים איש וישם אותם ארב בין בית-אל ובין העי מים לעיר | ||

| 15 Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness. | TU UINGOU IAUShO UKL-IShREL LFNIAM UINSU DRK AMDBR | טו וינגעו יהושע וכל-ישראל לפניהם וינסו דרך המדבר | ||
| 16 All the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them; and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city. | TZ UIZOQU KL-AOM EShR BOIR (BOI) LRDF EChRIAM UIRDFU EChRI IAUShO UINThQU MN-AOIR | טז ויזעקו כל-העם אשר בעיר (בעי) לרדף אחריהם וירדפו אחרי יהושע וינתקו מן-העיר | ||
| 17 There was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel; and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel. | IZ ULE-NShER EISh BOI UBITh EL EShR LE-ITsEU EChRI IShREL UIOZBU ETh-AOIR FThUChA UIRDFU EChRI IShREL | יז ולא-נשאר איש בעי ובית אל אשר לא-יצאו אחרי ישראל ויעזבו את-העיר פתוחה וירדפו אחרי ישראל | ||
| 18 IAUA said to Joshua: 'Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai; for I will give it into your hand.' | 19 The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hastened and set the city on fire. | IT UAEURB QM MARA MMQUMU UIRUTsU KNTUTh IDU UIBEU AOIR UILKDUA UIMARU UITsIThU ETh-AOIR BESh | יט והאורב קם מהרה ממקומו וירוצו כנטות ידו ויבאו העיר וילכדוה וימהרו ויציתו את-העיר באש | ||

| 21 When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned back, and slew the men of Ai. | KE UIAUShO UKL-IShREL REU KI-LKD AERB ETh-AOIR UKI OLA OShN AOIR UIShBU UIKU ETh-ENShI AOI | כא ויהושע וכל-ישראל ראו כי-לכד הארב את-העיר וכי עלה עשן העיר וישבו ויכו את-אנשי העי | ||

| 23 The king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua. | KG UETh-MLK AOI ThFShU ChI UIQRBU EThU EL-IAUShO | כג ואת-מלך העי תפשו חי ויקרבו אתו אל-יהושע | ||

| 27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey to themselves, according to the word of IAUA which He commanded Joshua. | KZ RQ ABAMA UShLL AOIR AAIE BZZU LAM IShREL KDBR IAUA EShR TsUA ETh-IAUShO | כז רק הבהמה ושלל העיר ההיא בזזו להם ישראל כדבר יהוה אשר צוה את-יהושע | ||
| 28 So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap for ever, even a desolation, to this day. | KCh UIShRF IAUShO ETh-AOI UIShIMA ThL-OULM ShMMA OD AIUM AZA | כח וישרף יהושע את-העי וישימה תל-עולם שממה עד היום הזה | ||
