Jeremiah Thrown into the Cistern | ||||
| 1 Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying: | E UIShMO ShFTIA BN-MThN UGDLIAU BN-FShChUR UIUKL BN-ShLMIAU UFShChUR BN-MLKIA ETh-ADBRIM EShR IRMIAU MDBR EL-KL-AOM LEMR | א וישמע שפטיה בן-מתן וגדליהו בן-פשחור ויוכל בן-שלמיהו ופשחור בן-מלכיה את-הדברים אשר ירמיהו מדבר אל-כל-העם לאמר | ||
| 2 'Thus says IAUA: He that remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live. | B KA EMR IAUA AIShB BOIR AZETh IMUTh BChRB BROB UBDBR UAITsE EL-AKShDIM IChIA (UChIA) UAIThA-LU NFShU LShLL UChI | ב כה אמר יהוה הישב בעיר הזאת ימות בחרב ברעב ובדבר והיצא אל-הכשדים יחיה (וחיה) והיתה-לו נפשו לשלל וחי | ||
| 3 Thus says IAUA: This city shall surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.' | G KA EMR IAUA ANThN ThNThN AOIR AZETh BID ChIL MLK-BBL ULKDA | ג כה אמר יהוה הנתן תנתן העיר הזאת ביד חיל מלך-בבל ולכדה | ||
| 4 Then the princes said to the king: 'Let this man, we pray you, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.' | D UIEMRU AShRIM EL-AMLK IUMTh NE ETh-AEISh AZA KI-OL-KN AUE-MRFE ETh-IDI ENShI AMLChMA ANShERIM BOIR AZETh UETh IDI KL-AOM LDBR ELIAM KDBRIM AELA KI AEISh AZA EINNU DRSh LShLUM LOM AZA KI EM-LROA | ד ויאמרו השרים אל-המלך יומת נא את-האיש הזה כי-על-כן הוא-מרפא את-ידי אנשי המלחמה הנשארים בעיר הזאת ואת ידי כל-העם לדבר אליהם כדברים האלה כי האיש הזה איננו דרש לשלום לעם הזה כי אם-לרעה | ||
| 5 Then Zedekiah the king said: 'Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.' | A UIEMR AMLK TsDQIAU ANA-AUE BIDKM KI-EIN AMLK IUKL EThKM DBR | ה ויאמר המלך צדקיהו הנה-הוא בידכם כי-אין המלך יוכל אתכם דבר | ||
| 6 Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard; and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the pit there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire. | U UIQChU ETh-IRMIAU UIShLKU EThU EL-ABUR MLKIAU BN-AMLK EShR BChTsR AMTRA UIShLChU ETh-IRMIAU BChBLIM UBBUR EIN-MIM KI EM-TIT UITBO IRMIAU BTIT | ו ויקחו את-ירמיהו וישלכו אתו אל-הבור מלכיהו בן-המלך אשר בחצר המטרה וישלחו את-ירמיהו בחבלים ובבור אין-מים כי אם-טיט ויטבע ירמיהו בטיט | ||
| 7 Now when Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, an officer, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the pit; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin; | Z UIShMO OBD-MLK AKUShI EISh SRIS UAUE BBITh AMLK KI-NThNU ETh-IRMIAU EL-ABUR UAMLK IUShB BShOR BNIMN | ז וישמע עבד-מלך הכושי איש סריס והוא בבית המלך כי-נתנו את-ירמיהו אל-הבור והמלך יושב בשער בנימן | ||
| 8 Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying: | Ch UITsE OBD-MLK MBITh AMLK UIDBR EL-AMLK LEMR | ח ויצא עבד-מלך מבית המלך וידבר אל-המלך לאמר | ||
| 9 'My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit; and he is like to die in the place where he is because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.' | T EDNI AMLK AROU AENShIM AELA ETh KL-EShR OShU LIRMIAU ANBIE ETh EShR-AShLIKU EL-ABUR UIMTh ThChThIU MFNI AROB KI EIN ALChM OUD BOIR | ט אדני המלך הרעו האנשים האלה את כל-אשר עשו לירמיהו הנביא את אשר-השליכו אל-הבור וימת תחתיו מפני הרעב כי אין הלחם עוד בעיר | ||
| 10 Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying: 'Take from hence thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the pit, before he die.' | I UITsUA AMLK ETh OBD-MLK AKUShI LEMR QCh BIDK MZA ShLShIM ENShIM UAOLITh ETh-IRMIAU ANBIE MN-ABUR BTRM IMUTh | י ויצוה המלך את עבד-מלך הכושי לאמר קח בידך מזה שלשים אנשים והעלית את-ירמיהו הנביא מן-הבור בטרם ימות | ||
| 11 So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there worn clouts and worn rags, and let them down by cords into the pit to Jeremiah. | IE UIQCh OBD-MLK ETh-AENShIM BIDU UIBE BITh-AMLK EL-ThChTh AEUTsR UIQCh MShM BLUI ASChBUTh (SChBUTh) UBLUI MLChIM UIShLChM EL-IRMIAU EL-ABUR BChBLIM | יא ויקח עבד-מלך את-האנשים בידו ויבא בית-המלך אל-תחת האוצר ויקח משם בלוי הסחבות (סחבות) ובלוי מלחים וישלחם אל-ירמיהו אל-הבור בחבלים | ||
| 12 Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah: 'Put now these worn clouts and rags under your armholes under the cords.' Jeremiah did so. | IB UIEMR OBD-MLK AKUShI EL-IRMIAU ShIM NE BLUEI ASChBUTh UAMLChIM ThChTh ETsLUTh IDIK MThChTh LChBLIM UIOSh IRMIAU KN | יב ויאמר עבד-מלך הכושי אל-ירמיהו שים נא בלואי הסחבות והמלחים תחת אצלות ידיך מתחת לחבלים ויעש ירמיהו כן | ||
| 13 So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the pit; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard. | IG UIMShKU ETh-IRMIAU BChBLIM UIOLU EThU MN-ABUR UIShB IRMIAU BChTsR AMTRA | יג וימשכו את-ירמיהו בחבלים ויעלו אתו מן-הבור וישב ירמיהו בחצר המטרה | ||
| 14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that was in the house of IAUA; and the king said to Jeremiah: 'I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me.' | ID UIShLCh AMLK TsDQIAU UIQCh ETh-IRMIAU ANBIE ELIU EL-MBUE AShLIShI EShR BBITh IAUA UIEMR AMLK EL-IRMIAU ShEL ENI EThK DBR EL-ThKChD MMNI DBR | יד וישלח המלך צדקיהו ויקח את-ירמיהו הנביא אליו אל-מבוא השלישי אשר בבית יהוה ויאמר המלך אל-ירמיהו שאל אני אתך דבר אל-תכחד ממני דבר | ||
| 15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah: 'If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? and if I give you counsel, you will not hearken to me.' | TU UIEMR IRMIAU EL-TsDQIAU KI EGID LK ALUE AMTh ThMIThNI UKI EIOTsK LE ThShMO ELI | טו ויאמר ירמיהו אל-צדקיהו כי אגיד לך הלוא המת תמיתני וכי איעצך לא תשמע אלי | ||
| 16 So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying: 'As IAUA lives, that made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men that seek your life.' | TZ UIShBO AMLK TsDQIAU EL-IRMIAU BSThR LEMR ChI-IAUA ETh ( ) EShR OShA-LNU ETh-ANFSh AZETh EM-EMIThK UEM-EThNK BID AENShIM AELA EShR MBQShIM ETh-NFShK | טז וישבע המלך צדקיהו אל-ירמיהו בסתר לאמר חי-יהוה את ( ) אשר עשה-לנו את-הנפש הזאת אם-אמיתך ואם-אתנך ביד האנשים האלה אשר מבקשים את-נפשך | ||
| 17 Then said Jeremiah to Zedekiah: 'Thus says IAUA, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, you, and your house; | IZ UIEMR IRMIAU EL-TsDQIAU KA-EMR IAUA ELAI TsBEUTh ELAI IShREL EM-ITsE ThTsE EL-ShRI MLK-BBL UChIThA NFShK UAOIR AZETh LE ThShRF BESh UChIThA EThA UBIThK | יז ויאמר ירמיהו אל-צדקיהו כה-אמר יהוה אלהי צבאות אלהי ישראל אם-יצא תצא אל-שרי מלך-בבל וחיתה נפשך והעיר הזאת לא תשרף באש וחיתה אתה וביתך | ||
| 18 but if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.' | ICh UEM LE-ThTsE EL-ShRI MLK BBL UNThNA AOIR AZETh BID AKShDIM UShRFUA BESh UEThA LE-ThMLT MIDM | יח ואם לא-תצא אל-שרי מלך בבל ונתנה העיר הזאת ביד הכשדים ושרפוה באש ואתה לא-תמלט מידם | ||
| 19 Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah: 'I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen away to the Chaldeans, unless they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.' | IT UIEMR AMLK TsDQIAU EL-IRMIAU ENI DEG ETh-AIAUDIM EShR NFLU EL-AKShDIM FN-IThNU EThI BIDM UAThOLLU-BI | יט ויאמר המלך צדקיהו אל-ירמיהו אני דאג את-היהודים אשר נפלו אל-הכשדים פן-יתנו אתי בידם והתעללו-בי | ||
| 20 But Jeremiah said: 'They shall not deliver you. Hearken, I beseech you, to the voice of IAUA, in that which I speak to you; so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live. | K UIEMR IRMIAU LE IThNU ShMO-NE BQUL IAUA LEShR ENI DBR ELIK UIITB LK UThChI NFShK | כ ויאמר ירמיהו לא יתנו שמע-נא בקול יהוה לאשר אני דבר אליך וייטב לך ותחי נפשך | ||
| 21 But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that IAUA has shown me: | KE UEM-MEN EThA LTsETh ZA ADBR EShR ARENI IAUA | כא ואם-מאן אתה לצאת זה הדבר אשר הראני יהוה | ||
| 22 Behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say: Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you; your feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back. | KB UANA KL-ANShIM EShR NShERU BBITh MLK-IAUDA MUTsEUTh EL-ShRI MLK BBL UANA EMRTh ASIThUK UIKLU LK ENShI ShLMK ATBOU BBTs RGLK NSGU EChUR | כב והנה כל-הנשים אשר נשארו בבית מלך-יהודה מוצאות אל-שרי מלך בבל והנה אמרת הסיתוך ויכלו לך אנשי שלמך הטבעו בבץ רגלך נסגו אחור | ||
| 23 They shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon; and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire.' | KG UETh-KL-NShIK UETh-BNIK MUTsEIM EL-AKShDIM UEThA LE-ThMLT MIDM KI BID MLK-BBL ThThFSh UETh-AOIR AZETh ThShRF BESh | כג ואת-כל-נשיך ואת-בניך מוצאים אל-הכשדים ואתה לא-תמלט מידם כי ביד מלך-בבל תתפש ואת-העיר הזאת תשרף באש | ||
| 24 Then said Zedekiah to Jeremiah: 'Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die. | KD UIEMR TsDQIAU EL-IRMIAU EISh EL-IDO BDBRIM-AELA ULE ThMUTh | כד ויאמר צדקיהו אל-ירמיהו איש אל-ידע בדברים-האלה ולא תמות | ||
| 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and say to you: Declare to us now what you have said to the king; hide it not from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you; | KA UKI-IShMOU AShRIM KI-DBRThI EThK UBEU ELIK UEMRU ELIK AGIDA-NE LNU MA-DBRTh EL-AMLK EL-ThKChD MMNU ULE NMIThK UMA-DBR ELIK AMLK | כה וכי-ישמעו השרים כי-דברתי אתך ובאו אליך ואמרו אליך הגידה-נא לנו מה-דברת אל-המלך אל-תכחד ממנו ולא נמיתך ומה-דבר אליך המלך | ||
| 26 then you shall say to them: I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.' | KU UEMRTh ELIAM MFIL-ENI ThChNThI LFNI AMLK LBLThI AShIBNI BITh IAUNThN LMUTh ShM | כו ואמרת אליהם מפיל-אני תחנתי לפני המלך לבלתי השיבני בית יהונתן למות שם | ||
| 27 Then came all the princes to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not reported. | KZ UIBEU KL-AShRIM EL-IRMIAU UIShELU EThU UIGD LAM KKL-ADBRIM AELA EShR TsUA AMLK UIChRShU MMNU KI LE-NShMO ADBR | כז ויבאו כל-השרים אל-ירמיהו וישאלו אתו ויגד להם ככל-הדברים האלה אשר צוה המלך ויחרשו ממנו כי לא-נשמע הדבר | ||
| 28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken. It came to pass, when Jerusalem was taken-- | KCh UIShB IRMIAU BChTsR AMTRA OD-IUM EShR-NLKDA IRUShLM UAIA KEShR NLKDA IRUShLM | כח וישב ירמיהו בחצר המטרה עד-יום אשר-נלכדה ירושלם והיה כאשר נלכדה ירושלם | ||
