Jacob Is Sent Away

2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take you a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother. 3 God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and increase you, that you may be a congregation of peoples; G UEL ShDI IBRK EThK UIFRK UIRBK UAIITh LQAL OMIM ג ואל שדי יברך אתך ויפרך וירבך והיית לקהל עמים
4 and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your seed with you; that you may inherit the land of your wanderings, which God gave to Abraham.' 5 Isaac sent away Jacob; and he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. 8 and Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father; Ch UIRE OShU KI ROUTh BNUTh KNON BOINI ITsChQ EBIU ח וירא עשו כי רעות בנות כנען בעיני יצחק אביו
9 so Esau went to Ishmael, and took to the wives that he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife. T UILK OShU EL-IShMOEL UIQCh ETh-MChLTh BTh-IShMOEL BN-EBRAM EChUTh NBIUTh OL-NShIU LU LEShA ט וילך עשו אל-ישמעאל ויקח את-מחלת בת-ישמעאל בן-אברהם אחות נביות על-נשיו לו לאשה
10 Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. I UITsE IOQB MBER ShBO UILK ChRNA י ויצא יעקב מבאר שבע וילך חרנה
11 He lighted on the place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. IE UIFGO BMQUM UILN ShM KI-BE AShMSh UIQCh MEBNI AMQUM UIShM MREShThIU UIShKB BMQUM AAUE יא ויפגע במקום וילן שם כי-בא השמש ויקח מאבני המקום וישם מראשתיו וישכב במקום ההוא
12 He dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. IB UIChLM UANA SLM MTsB ERTsA UREShU MGIO AShMIMA UANA MLEKI ELAIM OLIM UIRDIM BU יב ויחלם והנה סלם מצב ארצה וראשו מגיע השמימה והנה מלאכי אלהים עלים וירדים בו
13 And, behold, IAUA stood beside him, and said: 'I am IAUA, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lay, to you will I give it, and to your seed. 14 Your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with you, and will keep you whithersoever you go, and will bring you back into this land; for I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken to you of.' 16 Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said: 'Surely IAUA is in this place; and I knew it not.' TZ UIIQTs IOQB MShNThU UIEMR EKN ISh IAUA BMQUM AZA UENKI LE IDOThI טז וייקץ יעקב משנתו ויאמר אכן יש יהוה במקום הזה ואנכי לא ידעתי
17 He was afraid, and said: 'How full of awe is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.' IZ UIIRE UIEMR MA-NURE AMQUM AZA EIN ZA KI EM-BITh ELAIM UZA ShOR AShMIM יז ויירא ויאמר מה-נורא המקום הזה אין זה כי אם-בית אלהים וזה שער השמים
18 Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it. ICh UIShKM IOQB BBQR UIQCh ETh-AEBN EShR-ShM MREShThIU UIShM EThA MTsBA UITsQ ShMN OL-REShA יח וישכם יעקב בבקר ויקח את-האבן אשר-שם מראשתיו וישם אתה מצבה ויצק שמן על-ראשה
19 He called the name of that place Beth-el, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. IT UIQRE ETh-ShM-AMQUM AAUE BITh-EL UEULM LUZ ShM-AOIR LREShNA יט ויקרא את-שם-המקום ההוא בית-אל ואולם לוז שם-העיר לראשנה
20 Jacob vowed a vow, saying: 'If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, K UIDR IOQB NDR LEMR EM-IAIA ELAIM OMDI UShMRNI BDRK AZA EShR ENKI AULK UNThN-LI LChM LEKL UBGD LLBSh כ וידר יעקב נדר לאמר אם-יהיה אלהים עמדי ושמרני בדרך הזה אשר אנכי הולך ונתן-לי לחם לאכל ובגד ללבש
21 so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then shall IAUA be my God, KE UShBThI BShLUM EL-BITh EBI UAIA IAUA LI LELAIM כא ושבתי בשלום אל-בית אבי והיה יהוה לי לאלהים
22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that You shall give me I will surely give the tenth to You.' KB UAEBN AZETh EShR-ShMThI MTsBA IAIA BITh ELAIM UKL EShR ThThN-LI OShR EOShRNU LK כב והאבן הזאת אשר-שמתי מצבה יהיה בית אלהים וכל אשר תתן-לי עשר אעשרנו לך
