Ordinances for the People
1 Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them. E UELA AMShFTIM EShR ThShIM LFNIAM א ואלה המשפטים אשר תשים לפניהם
2 If you buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve; and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. B KI ThQNA OBD OBRI ShSh ShNIM IOBD UBShBOTh ITsE LChFShI ChNM ב כי תקנה עבד עברי שש שנים יעבד ובשבעת יצא לחפשי חנם
3 If he come in by himself, he shall go out by himself; if he be married, then his wife shall go out with him. G EM-BGFU IBE BGFU ITsE EM-BOL EShA AUE UITsEA EShThU OMU ג אם-בגפו יבא בגפו יצא אם-בעל אשה הוא ויצאה אשתו עמו
4 If his master give him a wife, and she bear him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. 5 But if the servant shall plainly say: I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free; A UEM-EMR IEMR AOBD EABThI ETh-EDNI ETh-EShThI UETh-BNI LE ETsE ChFShI ה ואם-אמר יאמר העבד אהבתי את-אדני את-אשתי ואת-בני לא אצא חפשי
6 then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door, or to the door-post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever. 7 If a man sell his daughter to be a maid-servant, she shall not go out as the men-servants do. Z UKI-IMKR EISh ETh-BThU LEMA LE ThTsE KTsETh AOBDIM ז וכי-ימכר איש את-בתו לאמה לא תצא כצאת העבדים
8 If she please not her master, who has espoused her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed; to sell her to a foreign people he shall have no power, seeing he has dealt deceitfully with her. 10 If he take him another wife, her food, her raiment, and her conjugal rights, shall he not diminish. I EM-EChRTh IQCh-LU ShERA KSUThA UONThA LE IGRO י אם-אחרת יקח-לו שארה כסותה וענתה לא יגרע
11 If he do not these three to her, then shall she go out for nothing, without money. IE UEM-ShLSh-ELA LE IOShA LA UITsEA ChNM EIN KSF יא ואם-שלש-אלה לא יעשה לה ויצאה חנם אין כסף
12 He that smites a man, so that he dies, shall surely be put to death. IB MKA EISh UMTh MUTh IUMTh יב מכה איש ומת מות יומת
13 If a man lie not in wait, but God cause it to come to hand; then I will appoint you a place whither he may flee. IG UEShR LE TsDA UAELAIM ENA LIDU UShMThI LK MQUM EShR INUS ShMA יג ואשר לא צדה והאלהים אנה לידו ושמתי לך מקום אשר ינוס שמה
14 If a man come presumptuously on his neighbor, to slay him with guile; you shall take him from Mine altar, that he may die. ID UKI-IZD EISh OL-ROAU LARGU BORMA MOM MZBChI ThQChNU LMUTh יד וכי-יזד איש על-רעהו להרגו בערמה מעם מזבחי תקחנו למות
15 He that smites his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. TU UMKA EBIU UEMU MUTh IUMTh טו ומכה אביו ואמו מות יומת
16 He that steals a man, and sells him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. TZ UGNB EISh UMKRU UNMTsE BIDU MUTh IUMTh טז וגנב איש ומכרו ונמצא בידו מות יומת
17 He that curses his father or his mother, shall surely be put to death. IZ UMQLL EBIU UEMU MUTh IUMTh יז ומקלל אביו ואמו מות יומת
18 If men contend, and one smite the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keep his bed; ICh UKI-IRIBN ENShIM UAKA-EISh ETh-ROAU BEBN EU BEGRF ULE IMUTh UNFL LMShKB יח וכי-יריבן אנשים והכה-איש את-רעהו באבן או באגרף ולא ימות ונפל למשכב
19 if he rise again, and walk abroad on his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit; only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed. 20 If a man smite his bondman, or his bondwoman, with a rod, and he die under his hand, he shall surely be punished. K UKI-IKA EISh ETh-OBDU EU ETh-EMThU BShBT UMTh ThChTh IDU NQM INQM כ וכי-יכה איש את-עבדו או את-אמתו בשבט ומת תחת ידו נקם ינקם
21 Notwithstanding if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his money. KE EK EM-IUM EU IUMIM IOMD LE IQM KI KSFU AUE כא אך אם-יום או יומים יעמד לא יקם כי כספו הוא
22 If men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart, and yet no harm follow, he shall be surely fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 But if any harm follow, then you shall give life for life, KG UEM-ESUN IAIA UNThThA NFSh ThChTh NFSh כג ואם-אסון יהיה ונתתה נפש תחת נפש
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, KD OIN ThChTh OIN ShN ThChTh ShN ID ThChTh ID RGL ThChTh RGL כד עין תחת עין שן תחת שן יד תחת יד רגל תחת רגל
25 burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. KA KUIA ThChTh KUIA FTsO ThChTh FTsO ChBURA ThChTh ChBURA כה כויה תחת כויה פצע תחת פצע חבורה תחת חבורה
26 If a man smite the eye of his bondman, or the eye of his bondwoman, and destroy it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. KU UKI-IKA EISh ETh-OIN OBDU EU-ETh-OIN EMThU UShChThA LChFShI IShLChNU ThChTh OINU כו וכי-יכה איש את-עין עבדו או-את-עין אמתו ושחתה לחפשי ישלחנו תחת עינו
27 If he smite out his bondman's tooth, or his bondwoman's tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake. KZ UEM-ShN OBDU EU-ShN EMThU IFIL LChFShI IShLChNU ThChTh ShNU כז ואם-שן עבדו או-שן אמתו יפיל לחפשי ישלחנו תחת שנו
28 If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die, the ox shall be surely stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit. 29 But if the ox was wont to gore in time past, and warning has been given to its owner, and he has not kept it in, but it has killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death. 31 Whether it have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done to him. LE EU-BN IGCh EU-BTh IGCh KMShFT AZA IOShA LU לא או-בן יגח או-בת יגח כמשפט הזה יעשה לו
32 If the ox gore a bondman or a bondwoman, he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned. LB EM-OBD IGCh AShUR EU EMA KSF ShLShIM ShQLIM IThN LEDNIU UAShUR ISQL לב אם-עבד יגח השור או אמה כסף שלשים שקלים יתן לאדניו והשור יסקל

34 the owner of the pit shall make it good; he shall give money to the owner of them, and the dead beast shall be his. LD BOL ABUR IShLM KSF IShIB LBOLIU UAMTh IAIA-LU לד בעל הבור ישלם כסף ישיב לבעליו והמת יהיה-לו
35 If one man's ox hurt another's, so that it dies; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the price of it; and the dead also they shall divide. 36 Or if it be known that the ox was wont to gore in time past, and its owner has not kept it in; he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead beast shall be his own.
