The Prophetic Call to Samuel

2 It came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place--now his eyes had begun to wax dim, that he could not see-- B UIAI BIUM AAUE UOLI ShKB BMQUMU UOINU AChLU KAUTh LE IUKL LREUTh ב ויהי ביום ההוא ועלי שכב במקומו ועינו החלו כהות לא יוכל לראות
3 and the lamp of God was not yet gone out, and Samuel was laid down to sleep in the temple of IAUA, where the ark of God was, G UNR ELAIM TRM IKBA UShMUEL ShKB BAIKL IAUA EShR-ShM ERUN ELAIM ג ונר אלהים טרם יכבה ושמואל שכב בהיכל יהוה אשר-שם ארון אלהים
4 that IAUA called Samuel; and he said: 'Here am I.' D UIQRE IAUA EL-ShMUEL UIEMR ANNI ד ויקרא יהוה אל-שמואל ויאמר הנני
5 He ran to Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for you didst call me.' He said: 'I called not; lie down again.' He went and lay down. A UIRTs EL-OLI UIEMR ANNI KI-QRETh LI UIEMR LE-QREThI ShUB ShKB UILK UIShKB ה וירץ אל-עלי ויאמר הנני כי-קראת לי ויאמר לא-קראתי שוב שכב וילך וישכב
6 IAUA called yet again Samuel. Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for you didst call me.' He answered: 'I called not, my son; lie down again.' 7 Now Samuel did not yet know IAUA, neither was the word of IAUA yet revealed to him. Z UShMUEL TRM IDO ETh-IAUA UTRM IGLA ELIU DBR-IAUA ז ושמואל טרם ידע את-יהוה וטרם יגלה אליו דבר-יהוה
8 IAUA called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said: 'Here am I; for you didst call me.' Eli perceived that IAUA was calling the child. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel: 'Go, lie down; and it shall be, if you be called, that you shall say: Speak, IAUA; for Your servant hears.' So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 IAUA came, and stood, and called as at other times: 'Samuel, Samuel.' Then Samuel said: 'Speak; for Your servant hears.' I UIBE IAUA UIThITsB UIQRE KFOM-BFOM ShMUEL ShMUEL UIEMR ShMUEL DBR KI ShMO OBDK י ויבא יהוה ויתיצב ויקרא כפעם-בפעם שמואל שמואל ויאמר שמואל דבר כי שמע עבדך
11 IAUA said to Samuel: 'Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle. IE UIEMR IAUA EL-ShMUEL ANA ENKI OShA DBR BIShREL EShR KL-ShMOU ThTsLINA ShThI EZNIU יא ויאמר יהוה אל-שמואל הנה אנכי עשה דבר בישראל אשר כל-שמעו תצלינה שתי אזניו
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end. IB BIUM AAUE EQIM EL-OLI ETh KL-EShR DBRThI EL-BIThU AChL UKLA יב ביום ההוא אקים אל-עלי את כל-אשר דברתי אל-ביתו החל וכלה
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity, in that he knew that his sons did bring a curse on themselves, and he rebuked them not. IG UAGDThI LU KI-ShFT ENI ETh-BIThU OD-OULM BOUN EShR-IDO KI-MQLLIM LAM BNIU ULE KAA BM יג והגדתי לו כי-שפט אני את-ביתו עד-עולם בעון אשר-ידע כי-מקללים להם בניו ולא כהה בם
14 Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering for ever.' ID ULKN NShBOThI LBITh OLI EM-IThKFR OUN BITh-OLI BZBCh UBMNChA OD-OULM יד ולכן נשבעתי לבית עלי אם-יתכפר עון בית-עלי בזבח ובמנחה עד-עולם
15 Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of IAUA. Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision. TU UIShKB ShMUEL OD-ABQR UIFThCh ETh-DLThUTh BITh-IAUA UShMUEL IRE MAGID ETh-AMREA EL-OLI טו וישכב שמואל עד-הבקר ויפתח את-דלתות בית-יהוה ושמואל ירא מהגיד את-המראה אל-עלי
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said: 'Samuel, my son.' He said: 'Here am I.' TZ UIQRE OLI ETh-ShMUEL UIEMR ShMUEL BNI UIEMR ANNI טז ויקרא עלי את-שמואל ויאמר שמואל בני ויאמר הנני
17 He said: 'What is the thing that He has spoken to you? I pray you, hide it not from me, God do so to you, and more also, if you hide any thing from me of all the things that He spoke to you.' 18 Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. He said: 'It is IAUA; let Him do what seems Him good.' ICh UIGD-LU ShMUEL ETh-KL-ADBRIM ULE KChD MMNU UIEMR IAUA AUE ATUB BOINU IOShA יח ויגד-לו שמואל את-כל-הדברים ולא כחד ממנו ויאמר יהוה הוא הטוב בעינו יעשה
19 Samuel grew, and IAUA was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. IT UIGDL ShMUEL UIAUA AIA OMU ULE-AFIL MKL-DBRIU ERTsA יט ויגדל שמואל ויהוה היה עמו ולא-הפיל מכל-דבריו ארצה
20 All Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of IAUA. K UIDO KL-IShREL MDN UOD-BER ShBO KI NEMN ShMUEL LNBIE LIAUA כ וידע כל-ישראל מדן ועד-באר שבע כי נאמן שמואל לנביא ליהוה
21 IAUA appeared again in Shiloh; for IAUA revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of IAUA. KE UISF IAUA LAREA BShLA KI-NGLA IAUA EL-ShMUEL BShLU BDBR IAUA כא ויסף יהוה להראה בשלה כי-נגלה יהוה אל-שמואל בשלו בדבר יהוה
