| 1 It came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their hosts together for warfare, to fight with Israel. | 2 David said to Achish: 'Therefore you shall know what your servant will do.' | 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. | 6 When Saul inquired of IAUA, IAUA answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. | U UIShEL ShEUL BIAUA ULE ONAU IAUA GM BChLMUTh GM BEURIM GM BNBIEM | ו וישאל שאול ביהוה ולא ענהו יהוה גם בחלמות גם באורים גם בנביאם | ||
| 7 Then said Saul to his servants: 'Seek me a woman that divines by a ghost, that I may go to her, and inquire of her.' | 10 Saul swore to her by IAUA, saying: 'As IAUA lives, there shall no punishment happen to you for this thing.' | I UIShBO LA ShEUL BIAUA LEMR ChI-IAUA EM-IQRK OUN BDBR AZA | י וישבע לה שאול ביהוה לאמר חי-יהוה אם-יקרך עון בדבר הזה | ||

| 13 The king said to her: 'Be not afraid; for what see you?' | 14 He said to her: 'What form is he of?' She said: 'An old man comes up; and he is covered with a robe.' | 15 Samuel said to Saul: 'Why have you disquieted me, to bring me up?' | 17 IAUA has wrought for Himself; as He spoke by me; and IAUA has rent the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, even to David. | IZ UIOSh IAUA LU KEShR DBR BIDI UIQRO IAUA ETh-AMMLKA MIDK UIThNA LROK LDUD | יז ויעש יהוה לו כאשר דבר בידי ויקרע יהוה את-הממלכה מידך ויתנה לרעך לדוד | ||

| 19 Moreover IAUA will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and to-morrow shall you and your sons be with me; IAUA will deliver the host of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.' | IT UIThN IAUA GM ETh-IShREL OMK BID-FLShThIM UMChR EThA UBNIK OMI GM ETh-MChNA IShREL IThN IAUA BID-FLShThIM | יט ויתן יהוה גם את-ישראל עמך ביד-פלשתים ומחר אתה ובניך עמי גם את-מחנה ישראל יתן יהוה ביד-פלשתים | ||

| 23 But he refused, and said: 'I will not eat.' But his servants, together with the woman, urged him; and he hearkened to their voice.
