David Takes Consecrated Bread | ||||
| 1 He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city. | E UIQM UILK UIAUNThN BE AOIR | א ויקם וילך ויהונתן בא העיר | ||
| 2 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said to him: 'Why are you alone, and no man with you?' | B UIBE DUD NBA EL-EChIMLK AKAN UIChRD EChIMLK LQRETh DUD UIEMR LU MDUO EThA LBDK UEISh EIN EThK | ב ויבא דוד נבה אל-אחימלך הכהן ויחרד אחימלך לקראת דוד ויאמר לו מדוע אתה לבדך ואיש אין אתך | ||

| 5 The priest answered David, and said: 'There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.' | A UION AKAN ETh-DUD UIEMR EIN-LChM ChL EL-ThChTh IDI KI-EM-LChM QDSh ISh EM-NShMRU ANORIM EK MEShA | ה ויען הכהן את-דוד ויאמר אין-לחם חל אל-תחת ידי כי-אם-לחם קדש יש אם-נשמרו הנערים אך מאשה | ||
| 6 David answered the priest, and said to him: 'Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days; when I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey; how much more then to-day, when there shall be holy bread in their vessels?' | U UION DUD ETh-AKAN UIEMR LU KI EM-EShA OTsRA-LNU KThMUL ShLShM BTsEThI UIAIU KLI-ANORIM QDSh UAUE DRK ChL UEF KI AIUM IQDSh BKLI | ו ויען דוד את-הכהן ויאמר לו כי אם-אשה עצרה-לנו כתמול שלשם בצאתי ויהיו כלי-הנערים קדש והוא דרך חל ואף כי היום יקדש בכלי | ||

| 10 The priest said: 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you slew in the vale of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you will take that, take it; for there is no other save that here.' | 11 David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. | IE UIQM DUD UIBRCh BIUM-AAUE MFNI ShEUL UIBE EL-EKISh MLK GTh | יא ויקם דוד ויברח ביום-ההוא מפני שאול ויבא אל-אכיש מלך גת | ||
| 12 The servants of Achish said to him: 'Is not this David the king of the land? | 15 Then said Achish to his servants: 'Lo, when you see a man that is mad, wherefore do you bring him to me? | TU UIEMR EKISh EL-OBDIU ANA ThREU EISh MShThGO LMA ThBIEU EThU ELI | טו ויאמר אכיש אל-עבדיו הנה תראו איש משתגע למה תביאו אתו אלי | ||
